What will happen in 2026

Besides with my article series “Turbulent world – full of powder kegs, Part I – Part II – Part III”, I have updated several articles regarding particularly the EU’s position and destiny in this turbulent world and found it as shocking. The European NATO belongs to this same shocking category. Europe is falling deeply down in the international power continuum and the EU & European NATO are disintegrating at an accelerating pace.

Overall Views – Fracturing International Order and the Rise of a “No-Rules World”

The United States’ shift from transatlantic solidarity to near-isolationism (NSS 2025), Russia’s decisive successes in Ukraine and the formation of a new balance of power in the Middle East were the defining trends of the past year. These events signaled the end of the unipolar era and the emergence of multipolar era beginning a period of intense competition among great powers and regional centers of power.

The year 2025 will go down in history as a year of fundamental transformation of the world order. Key alliances that seemed unshakable have fractured, and conflicts that defined previous years’ agendas have entered new phases, reshaping the world’s political landscape. This review covers the main events that took place in the US, Europe, Ukraine, the Middle East, and Asia over the year.

The Last Song ja SilverCare Solutions  January 3, 2026

The world will face 2026 with intensified geopolitical and geo-economic tensions and persistent conflicts. As 2025 came to an end, the world is replete with geo-economic and geopolitical tensions and ongoing regional conflicts. Amidst the world grappling with uncertainty and volatility, US President Donald Trump’s America First unilateralist approach has further fueled global instability.

The US-led so-called “rules-based international system” is bound to decline further in the coming months into “no-rules-based system” or “the world with jungle-laws”. Due to the US force policy, multilateralism would face further strain in 2026. Similarly, the Western global dominance will also decline further. However, the US-led Western nations will continue to influence the international system, mainly by force.

On the other hand, the new Eastern great powers, Russia and China, will have great roles and power on the global stage. Nonetheless, volatility and instability will be the defining factors of the international landscape. In addition, the world will see a sharp rise in multipolarity, with middle powers playing an unprecedentedly increasing influence in shaping global geopolitics. Given the ongoing international events, the world will see a surge in shifting alliances, increasing unpredictability, and eroding regulations – leading to an unprecedented shift in the international geopolitical landscape.

This demonstrates that the world in 2026 will be more volatile and unstable than it was in the year 2025. These geopolitical shifts will be determined by developments in Ukraine, the Middle East, and the trajectory of US-China relations and the global response to President Trump’s protectionist and aggressive policies and measures. Consequently, international alliances will become more transactional, defined primarily by national interests rather than values.

Another major trend that the world will see in the year 2026 is the further increase in the use of hard power by powerful states to pursue their interests. This is evident in the preference of the powerful countries to follow economic and military coercion rather than diplomacy and dialogue to influence the policies of other states. In this modern era of conflict, the use of force and defiance of international law has become a new global norm.

All the regional crises in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and in Latin America – in violation of international law and human rights — indicate the rising use of hard power around the world. This suggests that the fraying international order will further deteriorate. The world is currently perceived as facing a new Cold War between the US-led Western alliance and the China-Russia-led Eastern bloc. This trend will continue to persist in the coming year. On the other hand, Trump’s contradictory measures are likely to increase division and disintegration among his own western allies.

The situation in the Middle East is also unstable, although President Trump and some Muslim leaders have celebrated the so-called 20-point peace plan for Gaza. A new round of military actions between Israel and Iran is again luring around the corner. The US may take part in it, as well as China and Russia via proxies.

Hot spots – brief situation reports

Ukraine

Ukraine war was in the turning point in 2025 and the undeniable fact is that Russia is approaching a complete military victory in 2026. The next couple of months will tell us the final moments and results of this war. Without direct military intervention of the US and European NATO, Ukraine’s fate is sealed.

The Era Of Collapse: How 2025 Rewrote The History Of War And Peace

South Front December 31, 2025

The winter of 2025 in Eastern Europe has been cold—cold in the weather report, and colder still in the geopolitical ledger. Rewind the tape twelve months and you can hear the bravado of Kiev’s telethons, the promise of returning to the “1991 borders,” and the endless parade of Western politicians swearing they would stand “as long as it takes.” Today, on December 31, that noise is gone. In its place hangs a heavy, syrupy quiet over Bankova Street, Brussels, and Washington—the kind of quiet that settles in only when people begin to accept what can’t be talked away.

Three remarkable features in the current military situation have been:

  • massive Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy and industrial sectors
  • large-scale territorial advances of Russian Armed Forces along the whole front line
  • a second time use of hypersonic intermediate range ballistic missile “Oreshnik”

Taiwan

China’s Army PLA and Navy are organizing different military drills near and around Taiwan, on a regular base, the latest one just a couple weeks ago.

On the other hand, the question of Taiwan reunification by peaceful or military means, seems to be “a forever issue”. The only sure final date for reunification is the year 2049, when the modern China celebrates its 100th anniversary. Here, some interesting ideas by Professor Jiang Xueqin.

Venezuela

On the night of January 3, more than 30 powerful explosions were recorded in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. American cruise missiles simultaneously attacked the Venezuelan oil refinery, the Presidential Palace, the general staff, Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Air Base, the Fort Tiuna military base, and even the mausoleum of former Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. At the same time, independent monitoring services confirmed that Venezuela’s Air defense, which is considered the most powerful and effective in Latin America, for some reason did not fire a single shot and allowed all American missiles to hit designated. One explanation may be found in the video below but there are tens of other versions of “what really happened”.

The U.S. got Maduro but lost Venezuela: Putin and Xi Jinping made Trump an offer he couldn’t REFUSE

Maduro Lost Power in 3 Hours⏳ Slovyansk Offensive Gains Momentum⚔️ Military Summary For 2026.01.03

The US bomb attacks were likely planned to hit air-defense systems but several targets were purely administrative government places and one was a mausoleum with Hugo Chavez’s body.

With the air defenses silent, US special forces landed by helicopter near a place that housed President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores. Both are said to have been abducted and flown out of the country. Maduro was known to often change the place where he was living.

But where were the bodyguards that should have been looking after Maduro 24/7?  Why were none of the US helicopters shot down?  This was either a huge failure or treason. Who gave the order to the military to hold its fire? MONEY TALKS…

Maduro has been brought to the US and incarcerated. He is out of the picture for now. But Chavistas still rule in Venezuela. Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez is acting as president and Defense Minister Diosdado Cabello is also in place. The government issued a fierce statement, which called on its people to defend the country. One wonders, what are the next steps the US is planning to take. It does not have enough forces to invade Venezuela. Nor would a blockade of the country lead to a change of its government and internal revolution is unlikely to succeed.

The drug charges against Maduro are just a pretext for regime change. Those who were counting on Nobel prize winner, Maria Corina Machado, to take over from Maduro may be disappointed based on Trump’s latest remarks. Trump has dismissed Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado as a potential national leader, despite the Nobel laureate’s vocal support of the US military operation against her own country. During a press conference, Trump was asked whether he was in contact with Machado or viewed her as a viable leader following Maduro’s capture.

China, Russia and even North Korea are strongly condemning the US operation as serious violation of international law and made their warnings.

A lot of open questions remain to be answered in the future.

Trump says USA will ‘run’ Venezuela and take its oil

Geopolitical Economy Report January 4, 2026

After the US military bombed Venezuela and abducted President Nicolás Maduro, Donald Trump said “we’re going to run the country”, potentially for years. “We’re in the oil business”, he added, boasting that US corporations will exploit Latin America’s natural resources. Ben Norton reports.

Rather than celebrating for getting rid of a dictator (Maduro), it seems that the US intervention has united the Venezuelan people and wakening to start resistance. The situation will be complicated to the US.

Middle East

The waves of Great Turbulence are going around the globe. The Middle East is also facing both acute crises and basic structural transformations.

On December 29, traders launched protests in Tehran due to the sharp fall in the Iranian rial exchange rate. On December 30, students joined the unrest. The riots spread to most major cities. The protests peaked on the evening of January 8, when at least 13 civilians, including a child, were killed because of the rioters’ actions. Authorities reported the deaths of 38 law enforcement officers. Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani stated that rioters burned 25 mosques, damaged 26 banks, three medical centers, 10 government buildings, more than 100 fire trucks, buses, and ambulances, as well as 24 apartments.

The Iranian authorities called the rioters terrorists and blamed Israel and the US for orchestrating the unrest. The CIA/Mossad plan to spark a color revolution in Iran, which has attracted global attention and a tsunami of propaganda pieces portraying the Iranian protests as a massive, unstoppable popular movement, has failed. Casualty estimates are all over the board… ranging from hundreds to thousands of dead. Iranian officials have announced that the alleged ring leaders of the violent protests will be publicly executed starting Wednesday. While Trump is now promising to try to come to the aid of the protestors, his promise appears to be more rhetorical than substantive.

While the media publicity on Venezuelan operation, the US Military has massively deployed weapons and other military material to different parts of Europe for possible war on Iran.

On the other hand, Iran has prepared strongly for the next round of war, supported by Russia and China.

New exceptional approaches and operations are taking place in the Middle East. Many major regional players like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Israel, Sudan and Yemen are making new surprising openings.

POLITICAL TECTONICS ARE MOVING, 2026 will be a year of Great Turbulence.
