The end is near in Ukraine
Losses and collapses on the Ukrainian frontlines, per the beginning of August
I have made numerous calculations regarding the losses in this war, the latest from December 25, 2024 War in Ukraine close to irreversible turning point on my website.
Recently, the well-argued estimates have been presented by Col. Douglas MacGregor and Warren Thornton regarding Ukrainian loss data as well as Mediazona regarding Russian loss data. Moreover, very accurate data has been received from satellite images of Ukrainian graveyards.

“They are ALL dead… 1.8 Million of them killed in Ukraine” Col. Douglas MacGregor | Redacted News , Redacted August 2, 2025
THE BEST ACHIEVEMENT OF NATO IS THE CEMETERY EXPANSION IN UKRAINE
Estimate of troop losses in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), since Feb.24, 2022 up to the end of July 2025: troop losses total 2. 6 million, from which the irrecoverable losses 1.6 – 1.8 million (KIA, disabled & seriously wounded WIA).
Majority of all equipment and other military material, locally produced or delivered by the western allies, have been destroyed by Russian strikes or further sold in the black market (wide-range corruption in the Ukrainian administration and armed forces).
Estimate of troop losses in the Russian Armed Forces (RuAF), since Feb.24, 2022 up to the end of July 2025: troop losses total 475.000, from which the irrecoverable losses 127.000 (KIA, disabled & seriously wounded WIA).
Estimates of destroyed military equipment of RuAF vary 10-20% from relevant AFU numbers.

Russian losses in the war with Ukraine. Mediazona count, updated
Mediazona , August 1, 2025
When considering some other critical factors behind the loss-data, it is easy to see that these factors confirm those loss-estimates stated above:
- bodies exchanges between Russia and Ukraine, approx. ratio 1-10
- artillery shells, disparity in production and firing, in 2024 ratio 1-2 for Russia but in 2025 ratio 1-20 for Russia
- production and use of drones, Russia outpacing Ukraine in drones this year
- Russia has reached a leading position also in drone technology

Desertion is becoming a key problem in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The number of cases is becoming alarming high.

Based on those facts above, no wonder why AFU suffers from a chronic shortage of servicemen, resorting to forced conscription and recruiting those over 60 years old into military service.

It seems obvious that the military situation of AFU is getting desperate and the final collapse is near. Ukrainian armed forces (AFU) have lost the war and RuAF will take a clear victory on the battlefield. The key issue is, how they manage to make a political solution.

Desperate procedures in London, Brussels and Kyiv
As President Donald Trump prepares for a critical summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, 2025, European and Ukrainian leaders have been left out of the negotiations—sparking alarm and an emergency meeting in Britain. According to reports, officials from the US, Ukraine and key European NATO allies are convening over the weekend to develop a unified strategy ahead of the Trump-Putin summit. European allies have rallied behind Ukraine in a renewed surge of support, insisting that any peace talks with Russia must include Kyiv.
A joint statement issued by the leaders of the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Finland and the European Commission came ahead of US President Donald Trump’s meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.
The European leaders, in their statement released late on August 9, stressed that “international borders must not be changed by force”. “Ukraine has the freedom of choice over its own destiny,” they said, stressing that their nations would continue to support Ukraine diplomatically, militarily and financially.

Europe, Ukraine’s Desperate Move As Trump Confirms Putin Meet On US Soil, Hints At Favouring Russia , Hindustan Times August 9, 2025
Once a beacon of peace and prosperity, the European Union is now marching into a new era of militarization and scarcity. Behind the rhetoric of security lies a project increasingly shaped by US pressure, defense spending and a quiet betrayal of its citizens.
Europe is rearming at a scale unseen since the Cold War. The EU’s once-proud welfare model is being quietly sacrificed on the altar of militarization, as member states contemplate devoting up to 5% of GDP to defense spending. This transformation is not being driven by a sovereign European strategic vision, but rather by external pressure from the US, whose military-industrial complex stands to benefit most.
From Peace Project to War Economy. The metamorphosis of the EU into what critics call a “war and scarcity” project is evident in both policy and rhetoric. European leaders, rather than articulating an independent security doctrine, appear increasingly subordinated to Washington’s priorities. The newly appointed NATO Secretary General and former Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, has become the face of this transformation.
When NATO’s chief becomes a conduit for speculative threats to spread fear and make the militarization project palatable to the population, the alliance risks losing credibility and reinforcing the perception that Europe is less a sovereign actor and more a vassal of US power.
Russophobia and the War Logic. Underlying this shift is what can be described as institutionalized Russophobia. Russophobia has become not just public opinion but a structured ideology shaping policy, media narratives and diplomatic strategies. While the focus is on Russian military action in Ukraine, the EU’s strategic response is viewed through the lens of Russophobia, which replaces pragmatism with emotion and prejudice.
The military conflict in Ukraine provided an opportunistic moment for European elites to turn latent Russophobia into policy. Rather than pursuing a balanced security framework that might eventually integrate Russia into a stable European order, the EU doubled down on confrontation, sanctions, and militarization. Calls for diplomacy, dialogue or a broader European peace project, have been marginalized or dismissed as naïve.
Democratic Disconnection and Strategic Drift. Perhaps the most troubling aspect of Europe’s new trajectory is the widening gap between its political class and its citizens. Opinion surveys have shown that the majority of Europeans preferred a negotiated peace to the indefinite prolongation of conflict. Yet, in the European Parliament, 80% of MEPs rejected amendments calling for diplomacy and only 5% voted in favor. This dissonance reflects a structural malaise: the EU’s foreign and security policy is increasingly shaped not by democratic debate but by lobbyists, bureaucratic inertia, and transatlantic pressures.
War and Scarcity: A Vicious Cycle. The economic consequences of this transformation are already visible. Sanctions on Russia, while politically symbolic, have contributed to energy crises, inflation and industrial slowdown, particularly in countries like Germany and Italy. Simultaneously, EU states are paying far higher prices for American LNG and US-manufactured weapons, effectively transferring wealth across the Atlantic. This is the essence of Europe’s scarcity turn: by embracing a war economy, the EU sacrifices its social welfare model, undermines economic resilience and fuels domestic discontent.
The European Union now stands at a decisive moment in its evolution. For now, the EU’s sad trajectory seems clear: a union that once promised prosperity and peace is becoming a fortress of fear and social uncertainty, defined by war spending, scarcity and subservience. Its citizens were promised a bright future. What they are receiving instead is a militarized present and an uncertain, dark tomorrow.
